Crazy over Football
Every four years the world goes gaga over a sport, enough to send them screaming in stadiums or sports bars, or have them blocking off their schedules to watch TV or setting up their TiVos to record it. The sport is football and the event - the FIFA World Cup. Football is arguably the most popular sport in the world, with people, from all walks of life and from affluent countries to the poorest of nations, playing it. Of course people who love other sports may argue that basketball, baseball or some other sport is more popular. But nothing bits the frenzy over World Cup.
From England to Brazil to the US and even Hong Kong, people place bets, watch the games with their friends over beer, support their favorite teams and discuss matches near the coffee machine at the office the following day. There’s just no game that elicits such excitement from fans all over the world than football.
The excitement and the support of football fans have resulted in multi-million dollar contracts for football stars. One of the most popular football stars is David Beckham. But non-football fans really follow him more for his fashion and his high-profile marriage to Victoria Beckham (more popularly known as Posh Spice of the pop group Spice Girls) than his game. He is a phenomenal player, with skills that landed him the role of Captain of the English football team and the third Englishman to be signed to play with Real Madrid.
Some of the more popular footballers are the Brazilian stars because of their exceptional skills. Brazilian footballer Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite more popularly known as Kaka, plays for the Brazilian National team and the team AC Milan. He is often referred to as the Golden Boy and is regarded as one of the best Brazilian footballers.

Another Brazilian superstar is Ronaldinho. Known as Ronaldo Assis de Moreira in real life, he plays for the Brazil National team and FC Barcelona. Ronaldinho has garnered the following awards: European Footballer of the Year Award and FIFPro World Player of the Year Award (2005, 2006). He was also awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year Awards in 2004 and 2005. He is referred to as The One Man Show and El Maestro. Indeed, he isn’t wearing the number 10 on his shirt for nothing.
Many consider Ronaldinho the best player in the world at the moment and his act is a tough to follow. Yet already, a young player is being named heir-apparent to Ronaldinho’s throne. Everybody is keeping his or her sights on Kerlon Moura Souza, more popularly known as Kerlon. Only 18 years old, the young footballer is already starting to shine because of his astounding skills and his signature trick - the Seal Dribble. Many websites and forums have cropped up over the Internet about the young football star and football fans worldwide are watching his every step. Will he be the next Ronaldinho? He has the skills and the potential, but only time will tell.
Take a look also at Kerlon forum and write your thoughts about him.
